18 Jan Stay In a Pet-Friendly Lake George Cabin Rental for a Weekend With Your Pup
Bringing your dog camping? Great! Two cabin rentals at our pet-friendly Lake George campground allow dogs, plus we have pet-friendly RV and tent campsites. Check out a weekend itinerary below that includes all the fun things you can do with your furry friend in the area!
Friday: Set Up in Your Cabin, Plan for a Hike & a Bite to Eat
Arrive Thursday evening or Friday morning to check into your cabin rental. One pet is permitted per cabin (or two per campsite), and our pet-friendly cabin rentals are numbers 1 and 18. Make sure to pack everything your dog needs: a dish and water bowl, leash, bedding, toys, and medication if applicable.
Start off your camping weekend with a dog-friendly hike, of which there are many in the Lake George area.
Here are some suggestions:
- Buck Mountain (about 6 miles roundtrip)
- Cat Mountain (about 4 miles roundtrip if you don’t also do Thomas Mountain)
- Hadley Mountain (about 3 miles roundtrip)
- Pilot Knob Preserve (about 4 miles roundtrip)
- Sleeping Beauty Mountain (between 5 and 7.5 miles roundtrip, depending on starting point)
- Stewart’s Ledge (about 1.5 miles)
When selecting a hiking trail to take the pup on, do not choose trails that are known for having rough, rocky or steep terrain; avoid long hikes (8 to 10 hours is too much); don’t hike on trails that do not allow dogs; and also take a look at the weather, and choose a different activity if it’s going to be especially hot out. An 80 degree F day with 80% humidity, for example, is generally considered too hot to hike with a dog.
Research the trail thoroughly. Some trails that are short may still have steep sections, or could otherwise be tough for dogs. Don’t forget to bring water for humans and dogs, and a leash!
You’ve earned a solid bite to eat after your hike! Several Lake George restaurants allow dogs on the patio, including but not limited to:
- 163 Taproom
- Adirondack Pub & Brewery
- Biscotti Brothers Cafe
- Christie’s on the Lake
- The Docksider
- The Garrison
- Lake George Barnsider Restaurant
- Lake George Beach Club
- MezzaLuna Restaurant
- Moose Tooth Grill
- The Olde Log Inn
- Pizza Jerks
- Saluti
Northway Brewing, within walking distance of us at Lake George Campsites, also allows dogs outside.
Saturday: Walk the Village, Visit the Dog Cabin & Head to Dog Beach
You can’t leave Lake George without taking a walk through the Village, and if you have your pup with you, you’ll want to make a point to stop at The Dog Cabin. This unassuming store has near-perfect Google reviews because of the friendly staff, wide array of treats and even homemade ice cream for the dogs, plus toys, leashes, and more. Your dog deserves a little something to bring home from your getaway!
And did you know that Lake George has its own unofficial Dog Beach? Dog Beach runs along the shoreline of Lake George in between the Lake George Steamboat Company and Million Dollar Beach. There is no fee to use the beach, and no lifeguard – please be considerate and pick up after your dog.
Sunday: Take a Boat Tour & Head to a Park
Leashed dogs are welcome on certain guided tours with the Lake George Waterfront Cruises, one of the most popular ways to enjoy the lake. Other boat rental services allow pets as well, such as True North Boat Tours, Brodie’s Lakeside, and Lake George Boat Rentals.
And have you heard of the Original Tiki Tours? This unique guided boat tour on Lake George allows guests to bring their favorites snacks and beverages, control the music, and yes, you can even bring your dog, providing you are on a private charter and your pet has a life preserver.
Just make sure you ask any appropriate questions and gather all the information you need on what’s expected to bring a dog on a boat. You may need to a pay a fee, or will be expected to do so if any cleaning is required, or certain companies may have certain size or other restrictions. Many boat rental companies in Lake George include dog info on the FAQ section of their website.
Your pup will undoubtedly want to head to a park on your weekend trip! The prime place in Lake George for this is of course the Lake George Dog Park, which is located within the Lake George Rec Center and has fenced in areas for big dogs and for small dogs.
All Queensbury town parks allow dogs provided they are under their owner’s control via verbal commands or a leash; and that dogs stay leashed on Halfway Brook Trail.
Queensbury parks that are great for dogs and families include:
Note, the Warren County Bikeway does not allow dogs.
