Vacation with Your Pup in Lake George

Attention dog lovers! Many dog owners want to bring their four-legged friends along wherever they go – and that includes camping in Lake George. The great news is that Lake George, NY, is a very dog-friendly destination.

We’ve done the work for you and put together the perfect summer vacation itinerary for you and your pooch if you want to camp with us in the Lake George region for a few days.

Book a campsite or cottage at the dog-friendly Lake George Campsites.

Lake George Campsites is a pet-friendly campground! Dogs are allowed at all of our campsites, and we have several cottages that allow pets as well. Don’t waste your money on pet-friendly hotels, which are often expensive and not all that pet-friendly. Camping is a wonderful way to take a trip with your dog without breaking the bank.

Cool off in the water at Lake George Dog Beach.

“Dog Beach” in Lake George Village is located between the Lake George Steamboat Company docks and Million Dollar Beach. It’s a small area where you can let your dog off-leash to play in the sand and take a dip in the lake.

Let your dog run off some energy at Lake George Dog Park.

Obstacles, pipes, and off-leash fun await your dogs at the completely fenced-in Lake George Dog Park. The park (free to both locals and visitors) is located at the end of Transfer Road, and there is a large dog area, a small dog area, and a water station to keep your pooch hydrated in the summer heat. The park is great for dogs who like to socialize and play well with others.

Grab a beer and some food at one of the many dog-friendly breweries.

Go for a hike in the Adirondack Mountains.

If hiking is your thing, the Lake George area is rife with dog-friendly trails. Healthy, medium-large sized dogs can take on the trails at Buck Mountain, Cat Mountain, Pilot Knob Reserve, Hadley Mountain, Prospect Park, and Sleeping Beauty, to name a few. Be mindful of leash laws, as they do vary, and remember to pack lots of water! We recommend researching the trail before you go to make sure that it is appropriate for the age, size, and fitness level of your pooch.

Original Tiki Tours offers a unique way to experience Lake George. Tour the lake on a thatch-covered, 14-passenger, floating, motorized tiki boat. Tours are BYOB, so grab your favorite drinks and snacks and get ready for 75 minutes of fun! Dogs are welcome on private charters as long as they have a life preserver.

Cruise the Lake with Lake George Waterfront Cruises.

Leashed dogs are welcome on historic sightseeing cruises provided by Lake George Waterfront Cruises. Enjoy a relaxing one-hour cruise along the lake while learning about the great history of the region. Sights include mountain views, secluded islands, calm bays, million-dollar mansions along the water, and more. Snack bar on board with coffee, tea, assorted snacks, and alcoholic beverages available for purchase.

Share a kayak with your four-legged friend.

Your dog can relax while you throw an axe.

Dogs are welcome at Adirondack Axe Throwing. No, it’s not a typo – your dog can watch you from the sidelines as you throw an axe at a target across the room. They also have a bar on the premises, so you can get enjoy a beer or glass of wine while you throw.

Enjoy a free outdoor concert in the park.

Every year Lake George hosts a summer concert series at Shepherd Park. Concerts usually start around 7 PM and are free to attend. Pack a picnic, grab a chair for yourself and a blanket for your pooch, and enjoy an evening of great music from local artists.

Go on a metal-detecting adventure.

Adirondack Metal Detecting Adventure is a pet-friendly Airbnb Experience that you won’t want to miss out on. Spend an afternoon with your canine hunting for treasure at a historic site. Your guide will walk you through how to use a metal detector and will help with any artifact identification. Lunch and all tools are provided, or you can bring your own if you prefer. The experience lasts 4 hours and can accommodate up to 10 guests.

Plan your trip around the dog events in the area.

The Lake George area is home to several annual dog events that you may want to plan your vacation around.

“Get out your tie-dye and travel back to 1969 at Adirondack Woof Stock…a weekend of peace, paws, and music.” The event takes place each year in Chestertown, NY, usually in early June (this year, it was June 3 – 4). Let your dog try dock diving or run through the lure-chasing course. There are live performances, live music, food, and vendors.

Glens Falls Pet Fest is an annual event that usually takes place at the end of May. The event includes a “dogs got talent” contest where you can showcase your dog’s obedience, intelligence, tricks, and talents for the chance at a cash prize. There’s also a puppy parade and vendors selling food, drinks, and dog supplies.

Watch K9 demonstrations by the Warren County Sheriff’s Department and Green Mountain Dock Dogs, try out the DogLoversDays Lure Course, enter the LG Dogs Got Talent Show, enjoy live music, and more!
