02 May Your Guide to Americade, Lake George’s Annual Motorcycle Rally
For those of you who don’t know, Americade is an annual large-scale motorcycle event that takes place in Lake George, NY. It’s a week-long celebration that includes guided rides in the Adirondack Park, demonstrations of the latest and greatest motorcycles and gear, a large trade show, boat cruises, charity events, and much more.
Unlike other motorcycle events across the country, Americade is known for its family-friendly environment, and attendees are welcomed by the local Lake George community with open arms.
Americade attendees can stroll the massive expo that features 300,000+ square feet of the best motorcycle gear and accessories. Companies like Harley-Davidson, Yamaha, Triumph, and Suzuki are there to show off their latest bikes, helmets, clothing, and accessories. Riders will be like kids in a candy store trying out the newest bike models that are available for demo. In fact, Americade offers the most demos of any motorcycle event in the United States. Last year’s demo bikes included the Harley-Davidson 22 FLHRXS Road King Special, Honda Gold Wing Tour 6 Speed, and Indian Challenger Dark Horse. Demo spots fill up quickly so be sure to keep checking back to see what vendors 2023 will bring.
Canada Street in Lake George shuts down each year for the Americade Concert and Block Party. This year will bring even more of a celebration as they celebrate the 40th anniversary of Americade! There will be stunt shows, a custom motorcycle show, street entertainers, food, music, and more.
Americade is an event for true riders and offers both guided and non-guide tours for attendees to take advantage of. This year there will be a Skyline Ride guided tour that brings you through stunning mountain views of scenic Vermont (with a stop for lunch in a quintessential VT village). There will also be a guided Lake Placid Adventure ride that will bring you deep into the Adirondacks and includes a ride past the famous Olympic ski jumps in Lake Placid. The event offers educational components as well through Americade University, which brings noteworthy speakers to share their knowledge about all things motorcycling.
The event dates back to May of 1983, when veteran motorcyclist Bill Dutcher hosted “Aspencade East”, drawing about 2,000 participants. Aspencade was changed to Americade in 1986 to better reflect the national-sized rally that it had become. By that point the attendance was up to 10,000 participants, making it the largest touring rally in the motorcycle world. Today the event attracts upwards of 35,000 attendees.
Americade 2023
This year the festivities will take place from May 30 through June 4 in Lake George. Americade’s 40th anniversary will be celebrated in 2023 with special events and celebrations. Highlights for 2023 include a comedy show with Alonzo Boden, a fireworks boat cruise on the Minne Ha Ha, a special Americade: 40 Years in the Making Movie Presentation, and live music from The Grift.
