Camping Coffee Brewing Methods

Picture this: It’s a crisp morning in the Adirondack Region in Upstate New York and you are sitting outside your tent at the campsite you rented with your family at Lake George Campsites. Breakfast is being prepped, the birds are chirping and the smell of fall is in the air. You reach down to grab your mug of coffee and realize that it’s not there because you are camping after all and could not bring a coffee machine with you…Wrong! Just because you go camping doesn’t mean you have to give up all of the creature comforts, like a delicious, steaming hot cup of coffee in the morning. In honor of National Coffee Day on September 29, a day to celebrate the caffeinated beverage that keeps us all going, we are sharing our favorite ways to brew that morning cup of joe no matter what type of accommodation you are staying in here at Lake George Campsites. We’ve got you covered with coffee brewing methods for tent camping, RV camping and glamping in our cottages, which is what we have to offer at our seasonal campgrounds in the Adirondacks.

Staying in an RV? Consider coffee pods.

If you are staying at one of Lake George Campsite’s RV hook-up sites, you will have access to electricity so you can bring your coffee machine with you and make your morning cup of joe as you normally do at home. Lake George Campsites offers have full hookups with 30-amp service, the Z Field and W sites have 50-amp and we have water/electric, and can accommodate fifth wheels, motor homes, trailers, truck campers, vans, toy haulers, tent trailers, and hybrid campers. We recommend using a Keurig or pod-based coffee brewing system for convenience. They don’t take up a lot of space (and we all know space is sacred in an RV), you can brew single cups with ease and you can still get a decent cup of coffee out of the deal. They even have options for both hot and iced coffee, and for tea if coffee is not your thing. Not sure which one to buy? Check out Good Housekeeping’s list of the 10 best single-serve coffee makers of 2022.

Camping in a tent? Pour-over or instant coffee is the way to go.

Roughing it and staying in a Lake George Campsites tent site? Don’t worry – you won’t have to give up your morning caffeine fix. Both instant coffee or single serve pour-overs are great options since all you will need is a mug and some hot water. Instant coffee gets a bad rap, but there are actually some really delicious options on the market these days. Not sure how to boil water while camping? Check out The Geeky Camper’s article that tells you how to do just that. And by the way, even if you are “roughing it” in a tent you will still have access to all of the amenities we offer at Lake George Campsites, like bath houses and our laundry facility.

Glamping in one of our cottages? We’ve done the work for you.

Great news! All of our cozy cottages at Lake George Campsites are equipped with coffee makers so all you need to do is bring your favorite coffee beans, sugar and creamer. Want to grab a bag of local beans to try while you are in town? Cool Beans has locations in Queensbury and Glens Falls and sells their coffee beans to-go. They have tons of unique flavors like tiramisu, banana hazelnut, chocolate raspberry and white chocolate truffle and will grind the beans for your on-site. Cool Beans is a cash only establishment, so be sure to stop at the ATM on your way over (or use the one conveniently located inside). Other amenities that come with our cozy cottages include a kitchen/kitchenette (depending on what model you are staying in), television, heating and air conditioning, and fire pits. We’re one of the best Adirondack campgrounds with cabins when it comes to kitchen comforts and coffee!

Prefer to leave it to the baristas? You’ve got options.

If brewing your own coffee isn’t for you, don’t fret! There are a plethora of coffee shops just a short drive from Lake George Campsites. Caffe Vero is right nearby and they offer a wide selection of freshly-brewed coffees and specialty drinks. Bank Café is another great option that offers a quiet and cozy atmosphere to enjoy your morning cuppa. Spektor Coffee Roasters is a town over in Glens Falls and they are serving up quality coffee and specialty breakfast sandwiches. There are also several Dunkin Donuts and Starbucks locations in the area if that is what you prefer. And if you’re not from the area you won’t understand why so many people are obsessed with gas station coffee, but Stewart’s coffee is a fan favorite of locals. There are Stewart’s locations all over the Adirondack region and they’ve always got a pot of freshly brewed coffee and a station with all of the fixings.
