Get your camping goods out of storage.

It’s time to do some inventory! If need be, make a list of items you’ll have to replace. Unfortunately, some things are not meant to last. There’s nothing worse than snuggling into your sleeping bag and realizing your foot just popped out of the bottom of it. Especially when camping in Upstate NY, when the temperatures can get chilly at night, you’ll want to be prepared.

Make sure your camping gear is ready to use.

After you’ve gotten the goods laid out in front of you, take note of what might need to be washed out or cleaned up. Check that you don’t have last year’s snacks tucked away in any of the pockets.

Ensure the first-aid kit has been restocked.

A first-aid kit is only helpful if it’s stocked. Refill fabric bandages, gauze, antibacterial cream, Aspirin/non-Aspirin, first-aid tape, etc. It’s better to have extra than not enough.

Check your batter backup stash.

This one is tricky, because you might not know how much battery life is left in a flashlight, headlamp, lantern, or other equipment that is battery-operated. Double and triple check that you’ve charged all accessories that are rechargeable, and be sure to stock a small bag of varying battery types and sizes.

Don’t forget the little things!

You’ll want to pack bug spray, sunscreen, any insect netting protection you might need if you plan to hike during black fly season, and other items of necessity or comfort that will elevate your Lake George camping trip just a bit more.
